Pearl Group wants to make a positive mark on the world we live in, and for our employees to work for something they're passionate about. The result is WeCare@Pearl – an initiative where Pearl Group supports a new NGO each month, chosen by our employees. This month, the support goes to Skravlekopp in their work against loneliness.
– The purpose is to contribute to the smaller initiatives and big enthusiasts who are making a difference in our society, says Petter Dobbelie, the founder of the WeCare@Pearl initiative.
Each month, two of our employees decide which voluntary organization Pearl will support. This month they chose Skravlekopp – a project raising awareness and preventing loneliness in society.
An important matter
– Here at Pearl, we agree that the fight against loneliness is highly important, being something that affects all of us, Dobbelie says.
Recent numbers from the Norwegian Health Institute show that one out of four Norwegians experience loneliness. After a year of lockdown, the importance of social interactions have become even more crucial. Dobbelie points out how Skravlekopp’s work and methods can help each of us to become more aware of this.
More than just a cup of coffee
At Skravlekopp you can always stop by for a quick coffee and a chat. In fact, in Norwegian, the word “skravlekopp” means “chatterbox”, but “kopp” also means “cup” – therefore, the name has a double meaning in the direction of “chatting over a cup [of coffee].
However, the project is much more than just a friendly place. Skravlekopp wants to make us aware of the importance of being present in each other’s lives. By creating small yet significant social spaces, they want to encourage new people to meet for a chat, care about each other, and make us feel less alone.
Sail with Skravlekopp
This summer Skravlekopp is going on a tour along the Norwegian coast, sailing a 70 feet long ship from Lofoten to Oslo. They will host big and small “chats” along the way, invite local celebrities to their “chit-chat studio”, and it is open for everyone.
Join the chat!
On 15th of July, you can join Pearl’s Kaja and Siri at Skravlekopp in Fredrikstad, where they will make their own Skravlekopp tote bags for the occasion. But most important of all: They will learn how to contribute so that fewer people will experience loneliness.
– I hope this partnership can teach us something important about standing together against loneliness, and that we can bring this knowledge back into the company, says Dobbelie.
We encourage you all to stop by for a cup of coffee and a chat. And wish you a great summer!
